Rasuwa. The devastating flood in Bhotekoshi on August 26 swept away the bridge and road at Syafrubesi in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-5, bringing the transport service to a complete halt in the northern part of the district.
Locals of Amachhodingmo rural municipality have joined hands to construct temporary wooden bridges through people’s voluntary labour as there is still no certainty about the construction of a permanent bridge or an alternative route.
The construction of temporary wooden bridges has been carried out continuously since October 10 with the joint participation of local citizens and security agencies. People of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality (Ward No. 1 to 5) and Amachhodingmo Rural Municipality (Ward No. 1 to 5) have been facing problems for more than 50 days due to the disruption of movement due to floods.

Due to the complete disruption of the road network, the cash crops worth crores of rupees produced by the local farmers have not been able to reach the market. Last year, vegetables worth lakhs of rupees were exported from wards 2, 3, 4 and 5 of Ama Chhodingmo Rural Municipality. This year, the production has also increased.
However, due to the lack of transportation, cash crops like cabbage, potato and beans have been rotting in the fields. The farmers, who were expecting double the income compared to last year, are worried about the risk of wastage of the year’s hard work.
According to Gombo Tshering Tamang (Ram Bahadur), ward chair of Ama Chhodingmo Rural Municipality-5, the locals have started constructing wooden bridges after realizing that the government was preparing to construct a bailey bridge for vehicular traffic.
Ward Chairman Tamang informed that the construction of the wooden bridge has been completed so far and the work has been going on since Saturday so that the general public can walk. He said that the villagers have been called to actively participate in Shramdaan to complete the construction as soon as possible.
Local farmers and the general public have expressed confidence that the Kathebridge will provide relief from the Kathebridge for the time being and demanded the concerned authorities to immediately repair the obstructed main road section and ease the vehicular movement.
