This temple is considered to be one of the nine temples of Bhagwati in the far west of Nepal. According to the legend, about 2,500 years ago, the people of the Sanki tribe living in Latauli village of present-day Amargadhi Municipality-8 were ploughing the field and the goddess was born after blood flowed from the rock.

The Ugratara temple is situated on a large area. Since the temple is located on the hill, there is no need to descend to reach the temple. Therefore, the dignity of the temple has increased, said Chairman Sanki.

Mahapuja and a big fair are held on the day of Kartik Shukla Purnima in the Ugratara Bhagwati Temple. In ancient times, when the fighters from Garkha fought with their valor, a river of blood flowed here, which is named as Nwakhola.
