Sindhupalchowk and Nuwakot road obstructed

Kathmandu. Locals have objected to the Melamchi Water Supply Project blocking the road from Sundarijal to Sindhupalchowk and Nuwakot.

Sushil Simkhada, a local, said that the project has stopped the motorway that can easily reach destinations like Gosainkunda and Helambu via Sundarijal for a week. The Melamchi Water Supply Project has blocked the road for the construction of structures on the Mahankal section of Sundarijal. The motorway, which is used by hundreds of people every day, is the main road traditionally.TAG_OPEN_div_14

He said that the project has forcibly closed the road without necessary consultation and coordination with the local citizens, local government and people’s representatives of any level. As a result, Gokarneshwor Municipality Ward No. 1 has made it difficult for the locals to commute to their own villages.TAG_OPEN_div_12

}The motorway that connects Sundarijal to Mulkharka and Okhreni was constructed by the locals with great sorrow before the start of the Melamchi project is an easy and short route for carrying dead bodies.

The Melamchi Water Supply Project’s own document has also recorded the road as the main road. Manoj Yadav, an engineer at the Melamchi Project Sundarijal site, said that the road was blocked as the compensation has already been paid. He said that they were compelled to block the road as the work of the Melamchi project was delayed due to the blacktopped road.
