Lumbini. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) candidate Karvika Thapa, who had filed her candidacy for the House of Representatives election to the House of Representatives from Rupandehi constituency-2, has withdrawn her candidacy today. Issuing a press release, she informed that she withdrew her candidacy as it had been less than three months since she had renounced her permanent residential permit (PR).
As per Article 291 of the Constitution of Nepal, a person can contest in any election of Nepal only after three months of renouncing the permanent residence permit (PR) obtained while living abroad.
Issuing a press release today, Thapa clarified that she decided to withdraw her candidacy as the party had requested her to withdraw her candidacy as no complaint had been lodged at the Election Commission regarding her candidacy as per the constitution.
Candidate Thapa clarified that although she had obtained permanent residence permit (PR) abroad in course of study, she has not taken citizenship or passport of any other country except Nepali citizenship and passport. However, she said she decided to withdraw her candidacy after knowing that according to Article 291 of the Constitution, the candidacy can be filed only after the completion of at least three months after giving up the permanent residence permit.
According to the Office of the Election Officer, the application for the withdrawal of candidacy of candidate Thapa has been received and necessary study is underway on it.
