Kathmandu. Acting Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission, Ram Prasad Bhandari, has said that the political parties and candidates should make financial transactions through the banking system in the election to the House of Representatives.
During an interaction with umbrella organisations of the private sector organized by the Election Commission here today targeting the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 4, he urged the political parties and candidates not to make cash transactions during the election.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari also said that there is a legal provision that action can be taken against the candidacy of the party and candidates if they violate the banking system. He said all sides had supported the election so that the country does not have to go through a situation like that of Bangladesh.
Stating that the Election Commission has been working from the very beginning to realize that election is the appropriate medium to bring the country back to its normal rhythm after the situation of September 7 and 24, he thanked the business community and media for their support in this regard. According to him, the election was the first necessity as the country would be pushed further if there was no good governance and lasting peace.
Acting CEC Bhandari said that no one could rule out holding the election on March 4 as the power to disrupt the elections has weakened. He recalled that after the NHRC sent a letter to the government to stop the misuse of the national flag, the Ministry of Home Affairs drew the attention of the bodies concerned and urged them to follow its working procedure.
He also informed that action would be taken as per the law if all were not fully abiding by the election code of conduct. Pointing out the need of carrying out observers’ observation this time as foreigners also come here in the name of election observance, Acting CEC Bhandari urged the representatives of private sector to help in this regard.
