Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The District Election Office, Kathmandu has expressed serious concern over the breach of voters’ privacy by using social media and some online media to tell the general public about whom to vote for.
The Election Office has drawn the attention of the people to follow the election code of conduct and urged them not to do any act of breaching the privacy of the voters÷.
The Election Code of Conduct, 2082 (2082) has urged all not to violate the code ÷of conduct, urging them not to carry out such acts.
As per the provision, the election publicity could be started only 17 days prior to the election day after the publication of the final list of candidates. It also allows for holding rallies, mass meetings or corner meetings, publishing or broadcasting any kind of publicity material in the media and organizing door-to-door programmes for election publicity.
Although discussions have been held time and again to fully comply with the code of conduct, some political parties, their representatives and candidates have violated this provision, according to the Election Office.
The Election Office has drawn the attention of the Election Commission not to carry out such activities as it has been informed that the parties have been involved in organizing corner meetings, election publicity meetings, publishing and disseminating publicity materials and influencing the voters by conducting door÷to-door programmes.
The Election Office has informed that immediate action would be initiated as per the prevailing laws if any evidence is found that anyone has violated the election code of conduct.
Officers Mukti Ram Rijal, Shivaram Bhattarai, Romakanta Kafle, Mun Kumar KC, Sunita Subedi and Rukmangat Aryal jointly drew the attention of the election code of conduct.
