There were doubts about the election from the beginning. It was said that there will be no election, this government cannot do it. How did you make it possible?
Do you know what an uncomfortable and uncertain situation we had to handle? But we were confident that we could do the job. If you have perseverance, you can do anything. Despite the challenges, we continued to work according to our responsibility. It is not that we have not been attacked in various ways. It is not that there have been no obstacles. But we didn’t deviate from that. I believed that working with selflessness and integrity would be rewarding. No matter how many obstacles there were, we did not leave the way.
We had to face a lot of challenges. The parties have called us incompetent. Some of Jenji’s people also pointed fingers. But we worked for the purpose of maintaining peace in the country.
There should be no bloodshed, no untoward incidents, the election should be held in a peaceful and disciplined manner. It was supposed to be in a decent way. From day one, we have said that there should be no violence in elections. That’s what we’re trying to do.
We didn’t hear who said what. We only thought about work. We didn’t even do it for us. We have done it for the country and the people. The whole country also got support.
came to the post of Prime Minister in a very difficult situation. You were successful in holding the election today. How do you feel?
I was happy to be able to fulfill the responsibility given to me. I am happy. That was the responsibility we were given. But I am not the only one who has been able to do this. The entire cabinet is working hard. The Election Commission, security agencies, employees, political parties and candidates all have a role to play. Especially, the Nepali people who took part in the election by accepting our call have made it a success.
What were the main challenges you faced before the election?
The challenges and obstacles were many. The main challenge was security. An integrated election security plan was introduced. It was also effective. It was possible to make peace successfully.
There was also good coordination among the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department and Home Administration. All of them worked with the same national spirit. They all deserve thanks. The restraint and understanding of the martyr families and wounded warriors should not be forgotten here. I have high regard for them.
Do you wish we could have done better in terms of holding elections?
I wish I could have been able to vote overseas and inter-district. We were frugal in spending. It could have been reduced more. But due to the events of September 23 and 24, many new vehicles had to be bought. Nevertheless, this election has been held in a very civilized and disciplined manner.
What do you want to say to the next people’s representatives and the government?
Everyone is aware of the country’s problems. Everyone has seen the problems, but solving them requires honest effort. There are demands raised by Jenji. They need to be addressed. For example, there should be good governance in the country, so that they can stay in the country. Get the job done here.
There should be no corruption, discrimination and favoritism. End the situation of returning as corpses abroad. Youths should be able to get quality education within the country. The fundamental rights as per the constitution should be followed in letter and spirit. We will leave behind a white paper on what we tried to do, what was possible, what remained incomplete and what was not possible. So that the next government can be guided.
TAG_OPEN_strong_32 What will be the report of the Gauri Bahadur Karki-led inquiry commission?
As soon as the commission submits its report, it will be implemented. I have been saying that impunity should not have any place in the country. So, not only the present commission, if there are other such reports, we will look at them and make them public. So that the public knows.
