Rasuwa. KATHMANDU: Nine candidates who had filed their nomination papers as candidates for the House of Representatives election held on March 4 have forfeited their deposits. According to Chief Election Officer Dhruba Prasad Uprety, the deposits were forfeited, of which six political parties and three independent candidates were forfeited.
According to Clause 64 of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2082 BS, CPN’s Madhav Prasad Lamichhane, Man Bahadur Tamang of Ujyalo Nepal, Binod Thing of Mongol National Organization, Hari Prasad Ghimire of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Dawa Mingmar Tamang of Pragatisheel Loktantrik and Hom Prasad Acharya of CPN (Maoist Centre) Biplav-Nepal have been elected as per Article 64 of the Election Act-2082.
Similarly, independent candidates Chitra Kumari Devkota, Mingmar Tamang and Sagar Lama are contesting as independent candidates.
Their deposits were forfeited as they were not able to get 10 per cent of the votes they were entitled to and the amount would be approved in the state treasury.
As per the rules, the fee fee for female candidates is 50 per cent less than that of male candidates, and Rs 95,000 collected in the name of Chitra Kumari Devkota as the only female candidate from Rasuwa district will be deposited in the government’s account.
Out of 12 candidates from nine parties and three independents, Mohan Acharya of Nepali Congress won the election while Basanta Bhatta of Rastriya Samajwadi Party and Prem Tamang of CPN-UML got their bail refunded.
Likewise, the Election Commission on Sunday sent a letter to all the political parties and independent candidates asking them to submit their election expenditure details within 35 days as per the election act and regulations, said District Election Officer Rajan Raya.
