Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel road works 67 per cent in last three years

Kabhrepalanchok. The six-lane road section from Suryabinayak of Bhaktapur to Dhulikhel of Kavrepalanchowk is being expanded along the Araniko Highway.

The project has said that it will complete the work within the extended time. The two-lane highway has been expanded to six lanes. Two service lanes and a 2.5-metre footpath are being constructed on both sides of the road. The deadline for the project was extended by another year in mid-December last year after the deadline expired. The contract for the expansion of the road was awarded from Suryabinayak to Sanga and from Sanga to Dhulikhel in two sections.

According to the road project, only 60 per cent of the road construction work has been completed during the period. According to Rabindra Shrestha, manager of the construction company, 65 percent of the total physical progress has been completed while 90 percent of the physical progress except pitch has been completed.

The up-gradation of the road was started last November in the Palubazar area following a dispute between the locals over the ‘centre line’. According to project engineer Bishnu Prasad Khanal, the construction works are going on in a speedy manner in Janagal, Bansghari-Budol, Sanga-Bhaisepati, Banepa bazaar, among other areas.

The contract for the 7.5-km Suryabinayak-Sanga expansion project was awarded at a cost of Rs 3 TAG_OPEN_div_18.88 billion. The contract period of the section has also been extended after it expired last December. At present, the construction of a wall supporting wall, drainage and culvert is going on on both sides of the road.

According to the project’s information officer senior divisional engineer Anju Pariyar, out of three bridges on this road section, Mahadev River is under construction.TAG_OPEN_div_16 According to him, the design of other two bridges was delayed due to obstruction by the locals and people’s representatives in the initial phase of the design. Now those problems have been solved and the design has been done. He said that preparations are underway to construct the bridge soon.
