Kathmandu. The election atmosphere has begun in the Independent Power Producers’ Association (IPPAN). A new working committee will be elected under the leadership of incumbent senior vice-president Mohan Kumar Dangi for the next 2 years.
IPPAN has called a meeting of the Board of Directors today. Today’s meeting is likely to call the next general meeting on June 29.
According to an IPPAN official, discussions are going on accordingly. The meeting has been called for 3:00 pm today to fix the date, time and place. The next term of IPPAN will be led by Dangi, the current senior vice-president. Competition has already started to decide who will be in the new working committee under the leadership of Dangi.
The election will be held for senior vice-president, 5 vice-presidents, general secretary, deputy general secretary, 5 secretaries, one treasurer and 10 members.
The names of incumbent general secretary Balram Khatiwada, vice-president Uttam Blon Lama, another vice-president Bharat Bahadur Khatri, deputy general secretary Prakash Chandra Dulal and secretary Him Prasad Pathak are doing the rounds for the post of senior vice-president. It is said that if the working committee is formed on the agreement, there is a possibility that Pathak can leave the senior and sit in the post of vice-president.
So far, 2 names are being discussed for the post of General Secretary of IPPAN. The names of Mithun Poudel and Teknath (TN) Acharya are doing the rounds for the current working committee.
Similarly, the name of incumbent secretary Kabita Pokharel Kandel is doing the rounds for the post of vice-president. According to sources, there is a hundred percent chance that he will win in the coming term.
No other woman aspirant for the post of vice-president has been seen so far.
The names of incumbent secretaries Bikram Bista and Bharat Prasad Nepal are doing the rounds for the post of vice-president.
Likewise, Suman Joshi, Sushan Karmacharya (Rajbhandari), Shankar Basyal and Bijay Mohan Bhattarai are doing the rounds for the post of IPPAN secretary.
There is also talk that the current treasurer Narendra Ballabh Pant will be re-elected as the treasurer of IPPAN.
To become an office-bearer in IPPAN, one must first be a member of the executive committee. There is a provision to be an office bearer to be a senior vice-president.
The government was formed with a two-thirds majority in the elections held after the Jenji agitation on September 23 and 24. Some officials of IPPAN say that if the next working committee wants, it can do a very good job for the energy sector.
At present, it is being said that the leadership of Ganesh Karki has made more noise than work for the power sector in IPPAN.
“The best work that IPPAN has done and tried to do during Karki’s tenure was to remove the hydrology penalty for low power generation in the project and to go to the NRA to extend the RCOD deadline,” said an IPPAN official. The rest is just noise and accusations. ’’
IPPAN officials claim that the current working committee has not done much except accusing others without valid evidence, making noise rather than work and making unnecessary noise on social media. The official claims that such problems will appear if the leadership is not skilled.
According to the official, the Dangi-led working committee that will come to IPPAN at a time when a strong government of one party is formed for the next 5 years should correct the works done in the current term and work without provoking the government.
“Whatever has happened now, we are the private sector. What kind of people look at us and the state? It had to be seen. The state should not be irritated through social media or other means. The next leadership should work to get work from the state in our interest,” said the official, “Yes, we have provided employment and paid taxes to the state.” That is to say, our system is not up to European standards. It takes time. We have no option but to join hands with the government. He suggested that the next leadership should also pay attention to this. He is not thinking of coming to the leadership.
