Myagdi. Construction of 65 MW Myagdi Khola Hydropower Project has started at Bagar of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-4.

The project promoted by Hydro Village Pvt Ltd has forwarded the construction of access road (road), power house, tunnel and transmission line in parallel.

Project chief Uttam Poudel said the 1,130-metre-long tailrace tunnel has been constructed to divert the water from the power house.

“We have constructed a diversion along the bank of Myagdi River to construct a 10-km access road to Dobhan along the bank of the river until the construction of the road along the cliff along the Bagar-Tatopani section is completed,” he said, adding, “Civil contractor Geograph Infrastructure, which has started digging the tailrace tunnel, is preparing to dig powerhouse, dam and main tunnel.” ”

The dam to be constructed at the confluence of Myagdi and Kunabang rivers will collect the sand from the 75-meter-long and 11.9-meter-high sand settling pond in ‘Desender’ and the water will be brought from the 710-meter-long pipeline into a 3,600-meter long tunnel. Poudel said that the water to be brought from the 750-meter pipeline will be diverted from a height of 607 meters to the underground powerhouse located in the hills.

The run-of-river project will have a 209-metre vertical tunnel, 230-metre pressure tunnel, 587-metre incline tunnel and 757-metre penstock pipe. The powerhouse will have three turbine units. The project will generate 117.82 gigawatts of electricity per hour in the dry season and 264.45 gigawatts in the rainy season.

A 640-metre-long tunnel is being dug from the outer part of the hill between Bagar and Tatopani to construct an underground powerhouse. The process of constructing a 132 KV double and multi-circuit transmission line has begun to supply electricity from Dandakhet substation which is located 16.5 kilometers away from Bagar, said Buddhiraj Adhikari, Public Relations Officer of the project.

The project is estimated to cost Rs 13 billion at the rate of Rs 200 million per megawatt and is targeted to generate electricity from mid-April 2084 BS. The civil contractor has been mobilized since December last year while the electromechanical and hydromechanical contractors are in the selection phase, said project manager Pramesh Thapa.

Preparations are being made to set up a Nepal Army ‘Base Camp’ in Buffalo Shark in a few days. Preparations have been made to dig the main tunnel after setting up a camp of the Nepal Army for the protection of explosives.
