Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol has held technical and administrative consultations with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to restore the course of the river as per the approved Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Manohara land pooling project.

According to the approved DPR, the river should have been as per the 2021 survey map. As a result, around 100 ropanis of land towards Kathmandu has been shifted to Bhaktapur and around 15 ropanis of land towards Bhaktapur.

Taking the study of the map of the river area with Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain and Chief of Manohara Land Pooling Project Nirmal Raj Baral, Acting Mayor Dangol said that KMC priority was to immediately maintain the flow area as per the DPR by completing legal and administrative process.

“The project should be completed at the earliest by forwarding the works which could not be operated earlier due to the unsystematic settlement on the river banks,” he said. For this, a cost estimate should be prepared, a plan should be made for human resource mobilization and the plan should be implemented immediately. Directing the Chief Administrative Officer of the metropolis, Saroj Guragain, he asked the metropolis to give top priority to the proper management of the people who have registered themselves as landless from the settlements, management of construction materials in the evacuated settlements and protection of these places repeatedly. ’

According to Nirmal Raj Baral, chief of the Manohara Land Pooling Project, the river falling within the project area is around 1.5 Of the 5 km area, 575 meters is in the original condition. The flow in the rest of the river has changed.

“Around 100 ropanis of land on the Kathmandu side has been shifted towards Bhaktapur after the river changed course. Similarly, 15 ropanis of land in Bhaktapur has been shifted to Kathmandu. There were concrete houses, tents and temporary structures in the area where the land was shifted towards Bhaktapur. We have already started the process of replotting after demolishing the structures by vacating the human settlement from that place. ’
