Kathmandu. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) seems to be above the government. The NRA has started making arbitrary appointments and investments without the permission of the government.
The 63rd annual report of the Auditor General shows that NEA has appointed investment and directors in subsidiary companies without the government’s approval.
According to Section 5 (a) of the Nepal Electricity Authority Act, 2041 BS, the approval of the Government of Nepal is required for the investment of shares.
NEA has invested shares worth Rs 56.08 billion in 35 subsidiaries (subsidiaries, associates and others) without the approval of the Government of Nepal.
Gandaki Province has received Rs 381.3 million from two ministries without the approval of the government.
In addition, it is seen that the employees including the executive director of NEA have been represented as directors in more than one subsidiary company. According to the Auditor General, the approval of the Government of Nepal has been taken while appointing such directors.
