Tourism, agriculture and heritage sectors can be promoted in Sudurpaschim Province: Former Chair Dhakal

Far-West. Stating that the far-western province is full of potential, the government has stressed the need for creating an environment conducive for investment.

Addressing a programme organised on the second day of ‘Sudurpaschim Kahari-2083’ in Dhangadhi today, he stressed that the state’s economic prosperity would be possible only through joint efforts.

On the occasion, former president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, said that the far-western state has the potential to generate income by promoting tourism, agriculture, heritages and other sectors.

“The far-western region has a lot of potential”, he said, adding, “There is a lot of potential in tourism and medicinal herbs.” Seeing the potential here, we have made final preparations to operate the largest cable car project ever in Chisapani district. ”

Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) President Birendra Raj Pandey said the investment from the private sector would come based on the government’s policy and result. “There is a lot of potential in the far-west”, he said, adding, “It is necessary to facilitate the investors from the government level”. There is a problem in bringing in investment due to lack of potential. ”

Member of the Province Policy and Planning Commission, Nrip Bahadur Sunar, said the province has potentials in terms of tourism, agriculture, heritage and natural resources, underlining the need to incorporate the potentials in the policy and programme and budget.

The ‘Far-Western Kachari’ is being organized in Dhangadhi under the aegis of the Far-Western Development Foundation. In today’s first session, discussions were held on the topic of ‘Special Dialogue with State Assembly Members’, discussions were held on the development of the Far-West, long-term agenda and policy formulation.

Participants in the discussion pointed out that the far-western region could not develop as expected due to the lack of proper political leadership. Similarly, Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Far-West parliamentary party leader Khagaraj Bhatta, Social Development Committee President Dharma Raj Pathak and Nepali Congress lawmaker Raksha Mahara underlined the need of coordination and collaboration among all three tiers of government for the development and prosperity of the far-western region.

Earlier, on the first day of the program on Saturday, the speakers stressed on the need of cooperation between the three tiers of government for the development of the Far-Western Province along with the participation of private sector and international investors.

Chief Secretary of the State government, Baikuntha Aryal, underscored the need of collaboration among the state, local and federal governments for the construction of development projects in the province. Province Policy and Planning Commission Vice-Chairman Dr Jeevan Rana said Ramaroshan, Khaptad and Badimalika could be developed as tourist circuits.

National Planning Commission (NPC) member Arjun Jung Thapa shared that preparation of detailed project report (DPR) was underway for expanding the Gaddachauki-Attariya-Chisapani road section into four lanes.
