Imports up to Rs 1,692 billion in 10 months, exports to Rs 248 billion

Kathmandu. In the first 10 months of the current fiscal year 2082-83, Nepal has made foreign trade worth Rs 1.941 trillion. According to the statistics of the Department of Customs, foreign trade worth Rs 1.941 trillion was recorded in the review period.

According to the Department of Customs, goods and services worth Rs 1,692.64 billion were imported from various countries till mid-May. This is an increase of 14.82 percent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year 2081-82 (Rs 1,474.18 billion).

On the export side, Nepal exported goods and services worth Rs 248.96 billion. This is 14.25 percent more than the previous fiscal year 2081-82. Nepal had exported goods worth Rs 217.91 billion in the same period of the previous year.

Although both import and export have increased, the trade deficit has increased due to high share of import. In the review period, Nepal’s trade deficit reached Rs 1.443 billion, which is 14.92 percent more than the previous year. In the same period of the previous year, trade deficit was Rs. 1256.27 billion.

According to the data, the share of imports in the total trade is 87.17 percent and the share of exports is only 12.82 percent. The ratio of import and export stands at 6.79 percent.
