Mustang committee formed to probe EV tax evasion

Mustang. KATHMANDU: A probe committee has reached Mustang today after the Armed Police Force (APF) took control of electric vehicles entering the country from Korala checkpoint.

The Ministry of Finance had formed a probe committee under the leadership of Bhupal Raj Shakya, director of the evaluation section under the Policy and Operation Division of the Department of Customs.TAG_OPEN_div_27

Chief of Mustang Customs Office, Bidur Chudal, said that a three-member team led by Shakya arrived at Jomsom of Mustang via Beni-Jomsom road today to investigate the matter of electric vehicles imported from Korala checkpoint.TAG_OPEN_div_25

Customs Chief Chudal said that the APF has also monitored the electric vehicles taken under control by the Armed Police Force in Parbat and Kaski before the investigation team arrives in Mustang.TAG_OPEN_div_23 The team has started investigation to find out if there was any delay in the import of electric vehicles imported from China.

The team monitored 98 electric vehicles in Pokhara Hemja and 17 in Kushma of Parbat.TAG_OPEN_div_21 The team also carried out on-site inspection of 266 electric vehicles that had passed customs clearance from Korala border point to Jomsom via Lomanthang, Chudal said. The vehicles parked at Buspark area at Jomsom of Gharpajhong-4 in Mustang district have been monitored.

The investigation team will leave for Korala on Saturday morning to inspect 394 electric vehicles parked at Korala checkpoint.TAG_OPEN_div_19

According to APF Sub Inspector Bhesh Raj Giri, out of 775 electric vehicles entered Nepal from Korala checkpoint, 649 have passed customs clearance.TAG_OPEN_div_15
