Minister Shrestha directs to forward the process of recovery of dedicated and trunk-line tariff arrears.

. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, has suggested the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to expedite the electricity dues collection process by prioritizing it in its daily agenda.

A separate meeting of the Board of Directors of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and Deputy Executive Directors of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) suggested clearing the arrears as soon as possible as the arrears have been stuck for a long time and the amount is huge.TAG_OPEN_div_14

‘The Board of Directors has already formed the Administrative Review Committee. Now, the disputes related to electricity tariff and fines can be reviewed through the committee. In other respects, the management of the Authority should proceed in a regular manner. Minister Shrestha said.

“We don’t have to wait for instructions from the minister to recover the dues,” he said.TAG_OPEN_div_10 Many studies, investigations and decisions have been made in the past. There is no need for further decision.  Do it according to what is in the law, what is the procedure. Don’t sideline anyone. The top management of the authority should pay attention to mobilizing its mechanism instead of waiting for the ministry’s directive to recover the dues. ’

Minister Shrestha said that the dues of dedicated feeders and trunk lines, internet service providers, industrial areas, street lights and other sectors should be recovered.TAG_OPEN_div_8 He said that the NRA should not hesitate to recover the dues in the areas except those that are in the legal process. According to the 63rd report of the Auditor General, the arrears of electricity tariff stood at Rs 50.01 billion.
