Govt calls for conversion of expired land into lease

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Department of Land Management and Archives has urged individuals, institutions and bodies who have been using government land on the basis of the right to use the land on the basis of the right to use it to complete the process of conversion of the land into lease as per the law.

The Department has sent a letter to the Land Administration and Land Revenue Offices across the country directing them to identify the status of the government land in use and inform the concerned individuals and institutions about the conversion of the lease.

According to the Department, according to the Procedure Policy on Registration and Lease of Government Land, 2071, the person, institution or body with the right to use the land has to apply for conversion in the lease within the stipulated time. However, in some places, due to lack of timely process, many of the land is still under use.

The letter also states that the ninth amendment to the Land Revenue Regulations-2036 BS has also made the legal provision for converting the land into lease. According to this provision, the rightful parties can enter into lease agreement after fulfilling the remaining amount and other liabilities.

The Department has directed all the offices to update the details of the land that has expired or are about to expire and inform the concerned parties and to initiate the necessary process for the conversion of the lease. Likewise, it has been asked to pay special attention to keeping the records of such land systematic, removing legal confusion and making the use of government property more systematic.

The letter, signed by the Director General of the Department of Land Management and Archives, states that administrative and legal problems will arise if the land is not being converted for a long time.
