Kathmandu. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has resigned. He also announced his resignation from the Labour Party.

In an address to the nation, he announced his resignation. He shared that he tendered his resignation after questions were raised within the party whether he was a suitable candidate to lead the party in the upcoming general election.

He recalled that when he took office in July 2024, he was in a very weak position politically and economically and claimed that he had strengthened the party under his leadership. He claimed to have restored public confidence in the economy and national security, and eradicated anti-Semitism.

Nominations will take place on July 9 to elect a new Labour leader. A new leader is expected to be elected before parliament resumes in September. Until then, Starmer will remain prime minister.
