213th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanubhakta being celebrated

Kathmandu. The 213th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya is being observed across the country and abroad today.

Bhanubhakta has done a great service to Nepalis by presenting the ‘Ramayana’ with a translation of the biography of King Ram of Ayodhya written in Sanskrit language. The Ramayana written by him is still recited in every household of Nepalis.

Prithvi Narayan Shah had geographically unified Nepal through language, literature and culture.

Bhanubhakta, born on Asar 29, 1871 BS in Chundiramgha of Tanahun district, was inspired to compose the Ramayana in Nepali after an ordinary Ghasi advised him to earn a name by doing good deeds after birth.

Similarly, ‘Vadhushiksha’ is another famous work of his. His works include ‘Prashnottar’, ‘Bhaktamala’, ‘Ramgeeta’ and short poems. Bhanubhakta has made a historical contribution to Nepal’s ethnic unity, national identity and to strengthen Nepali cultural consciousness and to strengthen the national culture.

A programme to garland the statue of Adikavi and take out a morning procession today in memory of Adikavi. A special program was organized with garlanding of the statue of Adikavi Bhanubhakta at the premises of Nepal Academy.

At home, he celebrates Bhanu Jayanti by reciting Ramayana translated into Nepali language. On the occasion, organisations working in the field of language, literature and culture are marking the Bhanu Jayanti by organizing various programmes today. Bhanu Pratisthan and Nepal Education Council are also organizing various programmes.

Bhanubhakta’s birth anniversary is celebrated in Darjeeling, Sikkim, Bhutan, Burma of India and other countries where there are many Nepali speakers.
