Hetauda. The District Traffic Police Office, Makawanpur has collected revenue of Rs 172,54,504 from 18,192 drivers violating traffic rules in the fiscal year 2082/83.

Office chief Ramesh Bista said action was taken against 7,390 drivers from mid-July to mid-January and 10,802 drivers from January to June.

According to him, despite the increase in the number of cases, there has been no expected decrease in road accidents in the district. In the fiscal year 2082/83, there were 414 road accidents in Makwanpur. In these accidents, 64 people were killed, 114 were seriously injured and 711 suffered minor injuries.

There were 197 road accidents in the first six months and 217 in the last six months. According to the office, 35 people died in the first six months and 29 in the last six months.

Chief Bista said that action alone could not control road accidents and there was a need for awareness and responsibility among drivers and road users towards traffic rules. “Action should not only be taken, there should also be awareness,” he said, adding, “Accidents should have decreased but they have not decreased.” Negligence of drivers is also the main reason for accidents. ”

In the last fiscal year, action was taken against 713 persons for drunken driving while cases were filed against 45 people on the charge of drunk driving.
