Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has said the government was effortful to pull Nepal out of the ‘grey list’.

He expressed the belief that Nepal could come out of the grey list soon if the tax administration was made transparent, effective and credible.

Addressing a gathering of tax officers from the Inland Revenue Department, Lazimpat across the country today, he stressed the need for the tax administration to look closely at the crimes related to money laundering.

Finance Minister Wagle said that the tax administrators will be given priority on the basis of their professional development, their working style and the support they have provided to the state. He stressed on the need to bring taxpayers into the tax net through voluntary compliance and not by forcing them to collect taxes.

He also urged the tax administration to be made efficient and confident, if there is any shortage of human resources, infrastructure or information technology. He made it clear that those working in tax administration and benefiting the state would be encouraged.

Urging the government to understand the ship of economy as a model, he said that the budget for the coming four fiscal years would show the base of the economy that the government wants to build.

He also directed the departmental leadership to implement the discount schemes announced in the budget, make taxpayer incentive programmes successful, increase taxpayer awareness and make the transactions digital.
