Kathmandu. In the fiscal year 2082/83, the highest amount of diesel was imported among petroleum products.

Diesel worth Rs 172.42 billion was imported in the last fiscal year.

According to the Department of Customs, the import of soybean oil is second. Out of this, Rs 132.76 billion worth of soybean oil was imported.

Similarly, imports of petrol amounted to Rs 77.26 billion, LP gas worth Rs 60.28 billion, semi-refined iron used in iron and steel industries worth Rs 58.52 billion and smartphones worth Rs 48.69 billion.

Likewise, soybean oil was the highest among the goods exported from Nepal in the last fiscal year. According to the data released by the Department, the country has exported soybean oil worth Rs 128.74 billion. Cardamom exported goods worth Rs 12.64 billion, woolen carpet Rs 10.38 billion, sunflower oil worth Rs 8.94 billion and raw jute cloth worth Rs 7.14 billion.

In the last fiscal year, Nepal imported goods worth Rs 1210.60 billion from neighbouring India and exported goods worth Rs 258.65 billion. According to this, Nepal’s trade deficit with India alone is more than Rs 951.95 billion.

Likewise, Nepal imported goods worth Rs 425.24 billion from China and exported goods worth Rs 1.89 billion. Nepal’s trade deficit with China stands at Rs 423.35 billion.

According to the details made public, goods worth Rs 986.43 billion or 47.05 per cent of the total import were imported from Birgunj in the last fiscal year.

Likewise, goods worth Rs 304.17 billion (14.51 per cent) were imported through Bhairahawa border point, Rs 241.96 billion (11.54 per cent) through Biratnagar and Rs 203.51 billion (9.71 per cent) through Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

Birgunj border point is also in the top position in terms of exports. Nepal has exported goods worth Rs 114.85 billion or 36.43 per cent of the total exports.

Likewise, goods worth Rs 88.72 billion (28.14 per cent) were exported through Biratnagar and Rs 37.94 billion (12.03 per cent) through Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), according to the department.
