Kathmandu. Millions of rupees have been lost in the import of toothpicks in Nepal.
In the last fiscal year, the import of toothpicks amounted to Rs 2.81 crore. According to the Department of Customs, Nepal imported 76,614 kg of toothpicks in the last fiscal year.
The state has collected Rs 1 crore 1 lakh 42 thousand from the import of toothpicks. Toothpick is imported from China, India and Thailand.
According to the Department, the highest number of toothpicks were imported from China till mid-July of the last fiscal year. A total of 75,911 kilograms of toothpicks worth Rs 28.057 million were imported from China. Out of this, 43,489 kg of toothpaste and 32,422 kg of wood toothpaste was imported.
Likewise, 500 kilograms toothpick has been imported from India. Of them, 75 kg of toothpick and 425 kg wooden toothpick were imported. While importing toothpicks, India imports Rs 1,13,000 from Nepal.
Similarly, 202 kilograms of wooden tooth picks were imported from Thailand. Its price is Rs 11,000.
