Commercial banks’ base rate falls to 4.86 per cent

. The base rate of commercial banks continues to fall due to sufficient liquidity in the banking system, lower cost of deposits and relatively weak demand for loans. As of the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2082÷83, the base rate of all 20 commercial banks decreased compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.

According to the financial statements released by the banks, the average base rate of commercial banks has come down from 6.04 percent in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2081÷82 to 4.86 percent in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2082÷83.TAG_OPEN_div_32 During this period, the average base rate of banks decreased by 1.18 percentage points.

Nepal Investment Mega Bank (NIBL) has seen the biggest drop in its base rate.TAG_OPEN_div_30 The base rate of the bank has come down from 6.44 percent to 4.64 percent. The bank’s base rate fell by 1.80 percentage points in a year. Prabhu Bank’s base rate fell by 1.67 percentage points to 4.99 percent from 6.66 percent.

The base rate of Prime Commercial Bank has come down from 6.49 percent to 4.95 percent.TAG_OPEN_div_28 The bank’s base rate fell by 1.54 percentage points. Laxmi Sunrise Bank’s base rate fell by 1.45 percentage points to 5.05 percent from 6.50 percent. Nabil Bank’s base rate fell to 4.44 per cent from 5.83 per cent and declined by 1.39 percentage points.

Siddhartha Bank’s base rate fell to 5.02 per cent from 6.34 per cent and declined by 1.32 percentage points. Citizens Bank’s base rate fell by 1.21 percentage points to 5.04 percent from 6.25 percent. The base rate of NIC Asia Bank decreased by 1.21 percentage points to 5.83 percent from 7.04 percent. Sanima Bank’s base rate fell by 1.21 percentage points to 4.91 percent from 6.12 percent.

Everest Bank’s base rate fell by 1.11 percentage points to 4.25 percent from 5.36 percent. The base rate of NMB Bank decreased by 1.11 percentage points from 6.22 percent to 5.11 percent.

Global IME Bank’s base rate has come down from 5.7 TAG_OPEN_div_20 6 percent to 4.75 percent. The base rate of the bank decreased by 1.01 percentage points. The base rate of Nepal SBI Bank has decreased by 1.00 percentage points from 6.21 percent to 5.21 percent.

The base rate of Rastriya Banijya Bank has come down from 4.7 TAG_OPEN_div_18 8 percent to 4.20 percent. The base rate of the bank decreased by 0.58 percentage points. Standard Chartered Bank Nepal’s base rate decreased by 0.54 percentage points to 4.42 percent from 4.96 percent. Kumari Bank has the lowest base rate. The base rate of the bank fell 0.36 percentage points to 5.08 percent from 5.44 percent.
