Govt collects Rs 100 billion revenue in first 34 days of fiscal year

. The government has collected more than Rs 100 billion in revenue in just 34 days of the beginning of the current fiscal year 2083/84. According to the Financial Comptroller General’s Office, Rs 100 billion revenue has been deposited in the government’s coffers till Wednesday, the first 34th day of the fiscal year.

The share of Value Added Tax (VAT) in the total revenue collection is the highest at 34.04 percent.TAG_OPEN_div_10 Similarly, 22.17 per cent revenue was collected from income tax, 15.46 per cent from excise duty, 14.55 per cent from customs duty and 13.78 per cent from other headings.

The government has set a target of collecting Rs 15.TAG_OPEN_div_8 80 trillion in revenue in the current fiscal year. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has been putting emphasis on controlling revenue leakage, expanding tax net and effective mobilization of the government as ‘Mission 16 trillion’.

In the last fiscal year, the government had collected Rs 1,TAG_OPEN_div_6 249 billion. This year’s target is Rs 331 billion more than last year’s actual collection.
