Kathmandu. The Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund will immediately send Rs 1 billion to the flood-affected areas. A meeting of the Operation Committee of the Fund was held on Tuesday and it was decided to mobilize Rs 1 billion immediately.

Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission and Coordinator of the Fund Operation Committee, Dr. Gunakar Bhatta said that the fund meeting held today released Rs 1 billion to be mobilized through the leadership of the Home Secretary.

According to Section 22 of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, 2074, the Home Secretary manages the Disaster Management Fund. In the name of the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Relief Fund, one billion rupees has been sent to the fund from the savings in the account of Everest Bank.

The amount can now be spent through the District Disaster Management Committee for post-flood rescue, relief, immediate infrastructure improvement and construction of temporary shelters in the flood-affected areas based on the need and demand.

For this, the disaster management committees of the flood-affected municipalities or districts can ask for funds as per their needs. On the basis of this, a committee led by the Home Secretary will distribute the amount.
