Kathmandu. The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has formed a committee to identify suitable land for the safe rehabilitation and temporary settlement of the families affected by the floods in the Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi region.

The committee has been formed under the coordination of Director General of Survey Department Prakash Joshi. The committee consists of representatives of the Federal Affairs Division, Ministry of Infrastructure, Director of the Department of Land Management and Archives, Assistant Chief District Officer of the concerned district, Chief Administrative Officer of the concerned local level, District Coordination Officer, representatives of District Police Office and Armed Police Force, Chief of Land Administration Office and Chief of Survey Office. Under Secretary 9. Damodar Wagle is also the Member Secretary.

According to the Ministry, the committee has been given the responsibility to identify the details of the families displaced by the floods and those who are at risk to live in the same place and those living in the affected areas despite the risk.

The committee will submit a report with clear suggestions and recommendations incorporating issues ranging from identification of flood-affected families to selection of land required for rehabilitation, on-site study, preliminary disaster risk assessment and legal process required for temporary resettlement.

The committee will collect and identify the actual details of the flood-affected families in coordination with the concerned local level. The land required for rehabilitation will be identified with the help of the concerned local level, district-based land administration office and survey office.

According to the ministry, an on-site study of the identified land will be carried out and a preliminary disaster risk assessment will be carried out with the help of concerned experts. The committee will also study the geographical condition of the land, the risk of floods and landslides, the suitability for settlement and the necessary infrastructure.
