Kathmandu. Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah has warned that action will be taken against anyone involved in abusive comments, derogatory comments and intimidation activities on social media against the flood-affected people.

In a Facebook message addressed to the flood-affected senior citizens, Shah said those who inflict mental agony on the victims during the disaster are like criminals.TAG_OPEN_p_10

“Those who make unnecessary comments, hurt and try to inflict more pain on the people who are suffering at this sensitive time are criminals. The government will be ruthless towards these criminals,” the Prime Minister wrote.

TAG_OPEN_p_8 The Prime Minister’s statement came at a time when there has been various sarcasm and criticism on social media against the victims who have lost their families, property and relatives in the floods in recent days. At a time when there is talk that supporters of the government and the National Independent Party are among those abusing the victims on social media, Shah has also indirectly warned his own supporters.

Shah has urged the people who have lost their loved ones to understand the anger of those who have lost their loved ones as an expression of unbearable pain, not in a negative light. “The anger of those who have lost their world in an instant is a means of expressing more pain than anger,” he said.TAG_OPEN_p_7

TAG_OPEN_p_6 Prime Minister Shah also expressed his commitment that the state would not leave the flood-affected senior citizens alone. He said that the government is continuously active in providing relief, health services, psycho-social counselling and safe housing.

He praised the security personnel deployed in search and rescue after the disaster and said that it is the responsibility of all citizens to boost their morale. He also paid tribute to the people who lost their lives due to the floods and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
