State should provide facilities to flood-hit entrepreneurs: FNCCI President Shrestha

{{TAG_OPEN_div_32} Kathmandu. Anjan Shrestha, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), has raised questions about the facilities and protection provided by the state to industrialists and businessmen who have been paying taxes to the state all their life.

Addressing the 28th annual general meeting of the Society of Economic Journalists of Nepal (SEJON) here today, Shrestha urged the government to provide social and economic security to the industrialists and businessmen who have been hit hard by the floods in Bhotekoshi.TAG_OPEN_div_30

He said that the entrepreneurs who have paid taxes all their life are now on the verge of being hit by floods and the government should seriously think about what facilities they will get from the state.TAG_OPEN_div_28

} “What do the industrialists and businessmen who pay tax throughout their life get socially in the face of disaster?” he asked.

TAG_OPEN_div_24 Shrestha said that the businessmen have been affected by the floods in Bhotekoshi and said that the private sector, which helped the government during the disaster, is now in a state of suffering. He said that the businessmen who are forced to reach the roads due to the floods need immediate relief and rehabilitation.

Shrestha demanded that housing loans, insurance, refinancing and other facilities should be provided to the flood-affected entrepreneurs. He also pledged that the private sector would continue to provide support from its side for the rehabilitation of damaged industries and businesses.TAG_OPEN_div_22

He said that the country is becoming dependent on foreign production for employment and consumption, which has made Nepal dependent. He said that attention should be paid to increase domestic production by studying the possibility of producing about 70 percent of the imported goods in Nepal.

TAG_OPEN_div_18 Shrestha said that there is a need for serious study on how to accelerate industrialization in Nepal. He also said that collaboration between the government and the private sector is necessary to create an environment to increase investment in hydropower and other sectors.

Shrestha said that the private sector was ready to support the government as it set the target of taking the economy to Rs 100 billion in the next five years and increasing employment.TAG_OPEN_div_16
