Kathmandu. The District Administration Office, Kathmandu has started collecting details for the identification and protection of children who have lost their parents due to the flooding in the Bhotekoshi River and have lost contact with their families.

Issuing an urgent notice, the Office has directed the bodies concerned to prepare the profile of the children living permanently in Rasuwa and Nuwakot and studying in Kathmandu or who are out of contact with their family members due to floods and provide them within seven days.

According to the District Administration Office, the details of the children who lost their parents or lost contact with their families would be collected among the students of Rasuwa and Nuwakot who were admitted to various schools in Kathmandu before the flood in the Bhotekoshi River on August 23, 2083.

According to the administration, such children may be living in the school hostel or going to school from elsewhere.

The government has also asked the government to submit details of the children who were rescued from the flood-affected areas of Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts and brought to Kathmandu in hostel, monasteries, orphanages, children’s homes or temporary shelter homes of any school.

For this, the District Administration Office has appealed to the private, residential and government schools, monasteries, orphanages, children’s homes, temporary homes and social organizations providing shelter to children.

Legal action against children without informing

The District Administration Office has also warned that in the name of protection of rescued or guardianless children, no one can keep children on their own without following the legal process.

Action would be taken as per the prevailing law if anyone is found hiding, influencing or luring children without informing the concerned ministry, local administration and government bodies working in the area of children, or without following the prevailing legal process.

A notice issued by Chief District Officer Ishwor Raj Poudel directed all the bodies concerned to provide details of the children to the District Administration Office, Kathmandu within seven days.

Priority has been given to the collection of details of children separated from their families after floods, who have lost their parents or are in need of protection and to systematize their safety, protection and reunification process.
