Kathmandu. The power supply will be cut off in various parts of Kathmandu Valley to operate the underground power distribution system and to manage the demand for the upcoming winter.
Power supply will be cut off in different places of Kuleshwor, Baneshwor, Jorpati and Kirtipur distribution centers from today to 26 for the work related to underground power distribution system and for winter load management.
Power supply will be cut from 10 am to 3 pm in the concerned areas and the underground line will be operated and necessary technical works will be done. The power supply will be cut in Satungal Bauthali area on October 1, Machhegaun Dobhan Chowk and Khushi Chowk area on October 3, Mulpani area on October 1, Garjudhara area on October 2, Mulpani area on October 2. Similarly, the underground line will be cut in Balambu area on October 21, Koteshwar-Balkumari area on October 22, Sifal area on October 24, Satungal Dhaulagiri housing area on October 25 and Dhobi Khola area on October 19. If the weather is unfavorable, the fixed power supply will not be cut off.
The NEA is working in a phased manner with the objective of making the electricity distribution system of the Kathmandu Valley underground, strengthened and automated. In the first phase, the construction of underground distribution system was started in the areas under Ratnapark and Maharajgunj Distribution Center in Kathmandu. In the second phase, work is being done in the remaining urban areas of Kathmandu district, in the third phase in the urban areas of Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, and in the fourth phase, in the urban areas of Pokhara and Bharatpur metropolitan cities, underground, strengthened and automated. Under this program, 33 kV, 11 kV and 400 voltage power lines will be laid underground and optical fiber will also be laid.
After the operation of the underground system, the reliability and security of the electricity supply system will be enhanced and the distribution system will be gradually automated. The underground system will also help to manage the chaotic scene arising out of the haphazard and tangled wires of electricity, telephone and internet service providers in the road and urban areas. This is expected to enhance the urban beauty of the Kathmandu Valley and contribute to the construction of a systematic and modern power distribution system.
