The fruits were imported from Nepal-China North Korala border. According to the quarantine office at Lomanthang-4 Nhechung, Korala, the same quantity of Chinese fruits was imported from Korala border point after heavy rain and snowfall.
Technical Assistant at the Quarantine Office, Bandana Gharti Magar, said 87.300 tons apple, 16.100 tons of mango and 8.316 tons of dragon fruit have entered Nepal through Korlana in the last 11 days.
The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road has been completely disrupted since September 27 following heavy rainfall and snowfall.
There is also an increased risk of Chinese fruits getting rotten and spoiled if they are stuck in containers for a long time.
Meanwhile, dragon fruit transported in a container was distributed to the locals in Jomsom of Mustang on Thursday. The representative of the company, Subash Sunuwar, said that the dragon fruit worth about Rs 24.50 lakh was distributed to the locals in Jomsom of Mustang after it could not be delivered to the destination on time.
He said that there were about eight tonnes of Chinese dragon fruit in the container and instead of rotting, they were distributed to the locals. With this, the price of the dragon, container freight and customs revenue of an estimated Rs 30 lakh have been damaged.
