Kathmandu. Deepak Kumar Malhotra, acting president and senior vice-president of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, has said that special attention should be paid to the branding, quality and market expansion of Nepali products. He said that despite the good quality of Nepali products, they have not been able to make the expected recognition in the domestic and international markets due to lack of effective branding.

Speaking at the launch of a research report on ‘Nepali Brand Structure, 2083’, Malhotra said that the branding of Nepali products in Nepal is weak and in some cases, fake brands are also being sold in the market.

“There are many potential products in Nepal. Effective branding of products like chhurpi, turmeric and cardamom has not been done,” he said, “There are also legal problems in the field of branding. There is a need to implement the law as soon as possible and effectively by making the above laws.” ”

He said that Nepali brand is not just a name for any product or service but is related to production capacity, entrepreneurship, employment, investment, technology, quality and economic identity of Nepal.

He said that although there has been a long-standing debate on increasing production, reducing imports and expanding exports in Nepal, it is not enough to increase production. He said that along with production, equal attention should be paid to branding, quality, market expansion and building consumer trust.

“Despite the good production of Nepal, the recognition of Nepali brand in the international market is relatively weak,” Malhotra said, “Therefore, there is a need for collaboration between the government, private sector and media sector to make ‘Made in Nepal’ a strong identity in the global market.” ”

He stressed on the need to make Nepali brands competitive in regional and international markets and not limited to the Nepali market. He said that the government should develop stable policies, easy business environment, investment-friendly laws, infrastructure and technology.

The private sector should enhance the quality, innovation and competitiveness of production and the media sector can play a significant role in disseminating positive stories of Nepali production and successful entrepreneurship to the country and abroad, he added.

He thanked and congratulated Corporate Nepal for preparing the study and report keeping in mind the development of Nepali industry and business, promotion of domestic products and recognition of Nepali brands. He said that the report will provide an important basis to understand the current status, challenges and possibilities of Nepali brands.

Acting President Malhotra expressed the belief that the report on ‘Nepali Brand Infrastructure, 2083’ would be useful in policy formulation and business strategy in the coming days. He said that studies, research and fact-based debates would help to further strengthen the private sector.

He said that all sides should move forward together to establish Nepali products with pride not only in the domestic market but also in the world market. He said that with the development of Nepali brand, production, employment, export and the overall economy can be further strengthened.
