Kavrepalanchowk. Kavrepalanchowk: Traffic on the road section of Banepa municipality-4 and 1 in Kavrepalanchowk district has been completely disrupted after a bridge collapsed last night.
The road, which falls under the Nala road section of Kavrepalanchowk and Chamasing road section of Bhaktapur, has been used as an alternative route to the capital Kathmandu from the east.
The bridge was constructed in 2037 BS. Shantalal Shrestha, a local, said the bridge, which was constructed 45 years ago, collapsed after a goods vehicle crossed the bridge early this morning. The road section was blocked after the bridge collapsed. Vehicles going to the capital and going to the Middle East from the capital using this route have been completely banned.
Most of the vehicles plying on the highway have been using the Nala-Chamasing road section for the last two years as the road from Suryabinayak of Bhaktapur to Dhulikhel of Kavrepalanchowk is being expanded under the Araniko Highway. According to the District Traffic Office, Banepa, vehicles from Bhaktapur have been asked not to send vehicles to the road section and vehicles going towards the capital from Banepa have been stopped at Banepa.
Office Chief Police Inspector Sunil Dhanju said coordination was underway with the Department of Roads and local levels to make the road section operational temporarily.
