Kathmandu. Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba and German Foreign Minister Dr Johan David Wedful held a bilateral meeting today. During the talks held in Berlin, Germany, nepal-Germany relations, bilateral interests and various issues of common concern were discussed.
On the occasion, Minister Rana recalled that Germany, one of nepal’s largest and oldest development and trade partners, has received continuous support in economic and social fields and thanked the German government and the German people.
On the occasion, Minister Rana stressed the need for collective efforts to further promote bilateral trade and commerce between Nepal and Germany and encourage the network between the private sector of the two countries.
On the occasion, Minister Rana shared that nepal was preparing necessary strategies to make the possible challenges and opportunities easier and sustainable after being upgraded from least developed country in 2026.
Similarly, Minister Rana informed that Nepal has filed its candidacy for human rights council member from 2027 to 2029, economic and social council member from 2029 to 2031 and temporary member of security council from 2037 to 2038.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Rana urged the government to provide direct flights between Germany and Europe as it is the second largest tourist source in Europe for Nepal and there is a huge potential for tourism between the two countries.
He clarified that the lack of direct flights between Nepal and Europe due to the flight ban after Nepali airlines were listed in the European Union’s air safety list was seriously affecting the tourism promotion between the two countries.
German Foreign Minister David had assured germany of all possible support in this regard while requesting Germany, which is also an influential member of the EU, to play a role in removing the ban on Nepali airlines as the government of Nepal has presented two bills in the parliament to restructure the Civil Aviation Authority and the proposed law is not only the best practice in the world but also in line with the recommendations of the EU and ICAO.
During the meeting, Minister Rana said that climate change is having unimaginable effects in Nepal and the country is facing many consequences due to it and sought germany’s cooperation in the campaign of climate justice being pursued by Nepal.
