Seoul. At least 14 people have been killed and 12 missing in five days of heavy rains in South Korea, the government said on Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Interior and Security, one person was killed when a house collapsed due to heavy rain on Sunday, while another was swept away by a stream in the city of Gapyong, northeast of Seoul.

Eight people were reported dead and six missing in the southern city of Sancheong after heavy rains triggered landslides, house collapses and flash flooding on Saturday, the ministry said.

According to the ministry’s report, six people are still missing in Gapyong and the southern city of Guangzhou.

Earlier this week, three people were found dead in a car that was submerged after the retaining wall of an overpass collapsed during heavy rain in Osan, south of Seoul. The driver of the car was also killed after his car was buried in mud and concrete.

According to the ministry’s report, around 3,840 people have been displaced from their homes as of 9 am local time on Sunday. Rain stopped in most parts of South Korea on Sunday, while warnings of heavy rain across the country were lifted, ministry officials said.

According to the ministry’s report, the southern regions have received about 600 to 800 millimetres (24 to 31 inches) of rain since Wednesday.
