Physical Infrastructure Minister Dahal directs to give first priority to waste management and sick contracts

Kathmandu. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, has directed the employees to give top priority to the management of sick contracts along with the construction of infrastructures.

At the concluding meeting of the Performance Review Programme of the Department of Roads for the last fiscal year held on Wednesday and Thursday, he directed to maintain economic good governance at every stage of the performance.

He also directed to develop the capacity of the laboratories under the Department and create an environment for full operation to carry forward the quality construction work.

Stating that the Ministry has taken serious note of the problems seen in the construction of the bridge, Minister Dahal said that special attention should be paid to proceed with the construction of the problematic bridge. He directed that the problem of bridges that have been stranded across the country, which have not been started or completed even after the contract, and there are defects, should not remain for a long time.

He also pledged that there would be no shortage of resources in areas of special importance such as projects of national pride, schemes of national importance and transformative programmes. Likewise, special attention would be paid to the north-south highway, tri-junction corridor, structures to help in revenue collection, marketing of agricultural produce, among others, he said.

Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry Keshav Kumar Sharma directed the officials concerned to expedite the work of making the roads across the country pothole-free before Dashain. He directed to work in such a way that the results of capital expenditure of the last fiscal year are not only encouraging but also get more results.

On the occasion, various offices, office chiefs and contractors were awarded for their outstanding performance. Chiefs of offices across the country under the Department of Roads, representatives of donor agencies and representatives of other offices concerned were also present in the two-day programme.
