Kathmandu. The Department of Immigration is going to register and monitor the foreign tourists coming on ‘visit visa’ through electronic system. The Department has issued a notice today regarding the implementation of foreign national registration and monitoring (tracking) system.
Director General of the Department, Ram Chandra Tiwari, said that the new system has been developed with the objective of protecting foreign nationals, facilitating information, controlling possible crime and helping in the promotion of tourism in Nepal. It is believed that through the implementation of the developed system, it will be easier to manage the records of the stay and activities of foreign nationals coming to Nepal on a visit visa.
The department has also put up the process and manual to be registered in the system on its website. If more information is needed in this regard, the information technology branch or department of the department can be contacted. According to the Department, a letter has already been sent to the District Monitoring Committees of all 77 districts to monitor the implementation of the system.
According to the Department, this system is going to be implemented compulsorily in star hotels within the Kathmandu Valley in the first phase from September 1. In the second phase, it will be implemented in all star hotels, airlines, tours and travel companies, money exchanges from November 1.
The Department has requested the public institutions and private companies providing services to foreign nationals to compulsorily join the system. The Department had recently held discussions with the stakeholders, including hotel association Nepal, regarding the implementation of the new system. According to the association, this system has been discussed for a long time, but it has not been implemented. According to the association, an official opinion on the new system will be brought soon.
