Dhading. Vehicular movement has been affected due to landslides at different places along the Prithvi Highway triggered by incessant rainfall on Saturday and Friday. The movement of vehicles except the most essential ones has been banned since Friday evening after the vehicles stopped on the road were allowed to go towards their destinations. At present, the vehicular movement on the Prithvi Highway is almost zero.
The vehicular movement has been obstructed at Jyamireghat of Benighat Rorang rural municipality-10 at around 8.30 this morning. Similarly, landslides have also occurred at Satkilla area of Thakre rural municipality-7, Ghatbesi of Gajuri rural municipality-5, Jaharekhet of Gajuri-6 and Jawangkhola area of Benighat Rorang-10. Some parts of the Nagdhunga Naubise section of the Tribhuvan Highway and Naubise-Muglin road along the Prithvi Highway have been damaged. It is also difficult to operate vehicles due to the mud piled up on the road.
Chief District Officer Bijaya Raj Subedi said, “Landslides have disrupted the road at several places. There is a high risk of landslides at various places along the highway which is under expansion. Vehicular movement is not possible without completely clearing the road. ’
According to Chief District Officer Subedi, it is not possible to estimate when the highway will occur and the road will be obstructed. There is a high risk of stones falling and falling on the road even where the landslide has not occurred to obstruct the road. The vehicular movement has also been completely banned so that the stones falling in this way do not hit the moving vehicles and there is no human casualty.
At present, the locals are commuting only for essential work on the Prithvi Highway while the vehicles travelling from one district to another are not plying on the highway. Superintendent of Police (SP) at the District Police Office, Bheshraj Rijal, said that they need to wait for some more time to clear the road and resume the road even if it has stopped raining.
