335 MW Humla Karnali Second Hydropower Project to be built in Humla

. Necessary process has been forwarded for the construction of 335-megawatt Humla Karnali Second Hydropower Project in Humla district, which is lagging behind in terms of economic development.
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the project is currently underway.TAG_OPEN_div_30 The Ministry of Forest and Environment has forwarded the work of EIA on the recommendation of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. The Ruru Hydropower Project will construct the project.
TAG_OPEN_div_28 The project is located in Kharpunath Rural Municipality and Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla. The Ministry of Forest and Environment has already asked for necessary suggestions and suggestions in the EIA through a public notice.
A total of 47 TAG_OPEN_div_26.13 hectares of land will be required for the construction of the project. As per the Environment Conservation Act, 2076, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been mandatory for hydropower projects with a capacity of more than 50 MW. The design discharge of the proposed project is 118.70 cubic meters per second.TAG_OPEN_div_22 The project will construct two diversion tunnels. The length of the diversion tunnel will be 545 meters and 542 meters. The diameter of the diversion tunnel will be 9.5 meters.

The electricity generated from the project will be connected to the Mugu Karnali hub through 20-kilometer-long double-circuit 400 kV transmission line.TAG_OPEN_div_18 The construction of the project would affect 56 households. Similarly, 188 trees have to be cut down.
The cost of the project is Rs 21.TAG_OPEN_div_16 76 crore per megawatt. Similarly, the total cost will be Rs 72.90 billion. The project will provide employment to an average of 1,805 people in construction phase and 115 jobs in operation phase.
