Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development Kulman Ghising on Saturday carried out an onsite inspection of under-construction federal parliament building in Singha Durbar.
On the occasion, Minister Ghising, Secretary at the Ministry of Urban Development Gopal Sigdel and Director General of Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, Machakaji Maharjan, among others had monitored the construction site and discussed about the timetable for its completion.
The contract was signed in Asoj 2076 BS with an aim to complete the construction within three years. The contract agreement, which has been extended for the fifth time, is expiring on January 16. The progress of construction of civil and other structures of the project is around 87 percent. Another contract was signed in 2080 BS for the construction of interior, security system and other works. The construction progress of this package is 30 percent.
Minister Ghising had asked both the contractors to make commitment on the schedule to be completed at the construction site. Describing it as the biggest and important project among the buildings under construction in Nepal, he urged the stakeholders to prepare a daily work schedule to ensure their completion by Poush 16.
Stating that it would be difficult to complete the construction work on the stipulated time if hard work was not done, he directed the concerned authorities to mobilize necessary resources accordingly by reviewing the progress of the construction work every evening.
“The old parliament has been damaged during the Gen-G movement, the National Assembly has to be convened, the House of Representatives has to be run after the upcoming elections on March 21,” he said. Minister Ghising said. “If you don’t work towards speeding up the work, the process of taking action as per the contract agreement will move forward. ’
He also urged the media and the general public to regularly update the progress of the construction of the Parliament Building as it is a project of national importance.
Secretary Sigde pledged to extend necessary support, coordination, facilitation and monitoring to complete the project on time.
The representatives of the contractors were said to be working with the target of completing the work within the stipulated time. They had promised to work to make up for the delays even though they were a little behind schedule.
