Mustang. KATHMANDU: Mountaineering of Mt ‘Chhuama’ based in Upper Mustang has taken place for the first time. According to the National Trust for Nature Conservation, Annapurna Conservation Project (ACAP) Lomanthang, an eight-member team comprising three South Korean mountaineers successfully scaled Mt Chuama which is at an altitude of 6213 metres on November 15.
One has to climb the ‘Chuama’ mountain in Upper Mustang from Namdo village of Lomanthang rural municipality-4 to the Chuama base camp at an altitude of 5480 meters. A team of five Nepali tourist guides including South Korean tourists Dongjin, Namyong and Hanichul successfully scaled Mt Chuama via Chuama base camp, ACAP Lomanthang office chief Umesh Poudel said.
ACAP Lomanthang chief Poudel said that the Korean team returned to Lomanthang after climbing the third peak of Chua Maa in Upper Mustang for the first time. The mountaineering team left the Chuama base camp at 2:00 am on November 2 and reached the summit after 10 hours.
According to ACAP Lomanthang, it is the first time that a foreign national has climbed Mt Chhuama from Upper Mustang. Earlier, on October 18, a team from Trekking Camp Nepal had conducted an on-site inspection to climb Mt Chhuama.
ACAP Lomanthang has honored a team of 3 Korean nationals who successfully climbed the Chua Maa mountain for the first time. ACAP chief Poudel said that the mountaineering of Chua Maa Mountain located here for the first time is expected to help promote tourism in Upper Mustang and promote mountaineering in Upper Mustang.
