Pilot killed in helicopter crash in northern Australia

Sydney. A helicopter crashed in Australia’s Far North on Thursday night, killing all one person and the pilot, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) said.

Emergency services in the Australian state of Queensland began a search and rescue operation around the crash site on Thursday. The helicopter crashed in a small remote area of Yaguna, 1,700 kilometres northwest of Brisbane, in the Robinson state’s far north.

The wreckage of the helicopter was discovered by officers at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Queensland Police said in a statement. Police confirmed that the pilot and the sole passenger of the helicopter were found dead.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, police said.
