. Police have shot at three persons while trying to control a drug peddler in Rupandehi district last night.
Police opened fire at three youths who were coming to Chhipagadh from Kotahawa on a motorcycle with Indian number plate while conducting an emergency checkpoint based on information that they were involved in drug smuggling.
The arrestees have been identified as Bishal Yadav, 18, of Rohini Rural Municipality-2, Arun Kumar, 18, and Binay Pandey, 20, of Parsamlik Rural Municipality, India.
A joint team from Narcotics Control Bureau Bhairahawa and District Police Office, Rupandehi arrested them based on information that drugs were smuggling drugs at Kothawa of Rohini rural municipality-4. Three persons were on their way to Chhipagadh from Kotahawa when they tried to check the motorcycle (UP 56 F 9901).
Krishna Kumar Chand, Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) at the District Police Office, Rupandehi, said that the youths were arrested with drugs after they were injured when the youths pelted stones at the police.
Yadav, who sustained bullet injuries in his left leg, is undergoing treatment at Bhim Hospital and further investigation into the incident is underway, according to the District Police Office, Rupandehi. Police confiscated 1100 ampoules of Phenergan, 1100 ampoules of diazepam and 1100 ampoules of Brufen.
