Kathmandu. The ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, announced by US President Donald Trump, has come into force.
President Donald Trump said on Thursday that a 10-day ceasefire would begin between the two countries and that he would reach a long-term agreement.
The U.S. State Department confirmed that both Lebanon and Israel will enforce a ceasefire in an effort to create a lasting security arrangement and an environment for peace talks.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed the ceasefire, describing it as a “key plan” of Beirut’s desire since the beginning of the conflict, even in recent talks in Washington.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese army has urged civilians not to return to villages and towns in the south until the ceasefire is fully implemented, and warned not to come near areas occupied by Israeli forces.
More than 2,196 people have been killed and 7,185 injured since the conflict began, according to Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center.
