Birgunj. The customs pass has been stopped at the Birgunj Customs Office.

Importers and domestic manufacturers have stopped the customs clearance from today as they tried to implement the mandatory maximum retail price (MRP) on goods coming to the customs point and domestic products.

The federal government had issued a notice on April 9, 2082 and decided to impose MRP compulsorily on goods coming to the customs point and goods of domestic production.

Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, Udaya Singh Bista, said that the customs clearance work has been partially disrupted today after traders and businessmen failed to bring the MRP as determined by the government.

“We were itching to implement compulsory MRP on goods coming to the customs point as per the government’s policy but today the customs clearance has been partially halted as traders and traders are trying to import goods and goods without specifying MRP,” he said. ”

On an average, Birgunj customs office collects Rs 50 to 60 crore in revenue on a daily basis. Information Officer Bista urged the traders and businessmen to support the government’s policy of implementing MRP compulsorily.

Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Hari Prasad Gautam said that it was not possible to implement MRP all of a sudden and it would have negative impact on imports and domestic market. “Most of the customs offices in the country including Birgunj have not cleared the customs clearance of imported goods. ”

Stating that the Consumer Protection Act-2075 BS (6) sub-section (1) was mentioned by the Association, the Association said that the decision was taken without extensive discussion with the stakeholders. Gautam said, “Instead of starting by applying MRP to only certain goods, it will be a big problem to implement MRP on all of a sudden.” ”
