Triveni (Nawalparasi). The Narayangadh-Butwal Road Widening Project has started road safety works in the areas where road construction has been completed.
Information Officer of the eastern section of the Project, Shiva Khanal, said that works related to road safety are being carried out in the places that have already been constructed in the eastern section.
As part of road safety, white and yellow signs, paint the middle dividers, install cement fences between the main road and auxiliary roads and install speed limit signs. Likewise, construction of railings, installation of W-beams and delineator poles on the roadside is also going on.
Information Officer Khanal said that the road safety works have also been prioritized as the road construction work is nearing the final phase. “Most of the road construction works are nearing the final phase and we have forwarded the road safety works accordingly”, he said. ”
According to Information Officer Khanal, out of 65 kilometers in the eastern section of Nawalparasi, only seven kilometers have to be traveled by dirt road. Blacktopping and concrete roads have come into operation in all other areas. According to him, the physical progress in the eastern section has reached 81 percent. In the eastern section, travel has become easier except in the Daunne area.
The construction of the Narayangadh-Butwal road widening project was initiated by China State Construction Corporation with an aim to complete the project on August 7, 2079. A total of 113 kilometres of the road has been divided into two sections.
The deadline has been extended for the fourth time as the deadline has not been completed within the stipulated time. Implemented with the loan assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the total cost of both sections is Rs 16.99 billion.
Of the total 113 kilometres of the road, 70 kilometres will be constructed with four lanes while 29 kilometres will be expanded with four lanes. A three-lane road will be constructed on a 14-km stretch of Daunne area.
