President stresses on maintaining financial discipline

Kathmandu. The annual report of the Auditor General for the fiscal year 2081/82 has been submitted to President Ram Chandra Poudel.

Auditor General Toyam Raya submitted the report to President Bhandari amidst a special programme at the Rashtrapati Bhawan today.

Expressing concern over the growing arrears on the occasion, President Poudel stressed on the need for the public bodies to maintain accountability, transparency and financial discipline. “Public officials need to be more accountable to move towards resolving arrears and maintaining fiscal discipline,” he said.

President Poudel expressed the belief that the country’s aspirations for peace, good governance, development and prosperity would be fulfilled if economic discipline was maintained by discouraging wasteful expenditure.

The President expressed the belief that the issues pointed out by the report would inspire the bodies concerned and the stakeholders to be accountable.

Stating that the role of the Office of the Auditor General was important to maintain financial discipline, accountability and transparency by minimizing arrears, President Poudel stressed that the Office should be more proactive towards promoting institutional capacity, professional interests and internal good governance in the future as well.
