Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The government is fully committed to maintaining price stability and supply of essential commodities including sugar that are directly related to the daily life of the common people.
Spokesperson at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Netra Prasad Subedi has urged the consumers and stakeholders not to hoard daily essentials including sugar unnecessarily.
The Ministry has said that its attention has been drawn to the recent decision of the Indian government to ban the export of sugar by changing the policy provisions related to the export of sugar.
The Ministry has been carrying out necessary works prioritizing the interest of consumers, stability of market price and easy availability of sugar.
The quantity of sugar produced by the existing sugar factories and imported so far is in a position to meet the demand of around eight months from the Food Management and Trading Company Limited and Salt Trading Corporation Limited among others.
Subedi said the ministry was committed to preventing artificial scarcity, black marketeering, unwarranted stock and price hike by making regular market monitoring, supply management and institutional and hierarchical coordination more effective.
The government was effortful to enhance the competitive capacity of sugar production for self-reliance on sugar.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment is preparing to facilitate farmers for efficiency enhancement, innovation and use of modern technology through improved varieties of sugarcane.
Production promotion, supply management, market monitoring and regulation would be made effective, Subedi said.
